Because of neuromuscular diseases, injuries, surgery or ageing, a large population is in the need of assistive devices. Autonomyo’s solution is a slim and lightweight lower limb exoskeleton with unparalleled degrees of freedom that promotes daily activities from level walking to stair climbing through standing up from a chair while augmenting the balance of the user. Our hope is to provide confidence, sociability and capacity to work for impaired people through a highly technological but affordable technology.

Intento

Every year 17 million people suffer a stroke, causing in 30 percent of the cases a severe, permanent paralysis on one half of the body. To date, there are no effective solutions for the rehabilitation of the upper limbs. Intento’s system, based on non-invasive electrical stimulation, has shown in a recently concluded clinical study to spin-fundspromote high functional recovery, as high as in 80% of the tested patients.
Intento earned multiple awards including the prestigious Swiss Medtech Award 2016 and was ranked in the TOP 100 Swiss Startups 2016.

MagnebotiX

MagnebotiX_155By130_ACB_220816MagnebotiX develops and produces magnetic manipulation systems for the precise control of magnetic microagents. The patented field generator drives research in nanorobotics and biology, and finds applications in handling delicate objects at the microscale.

MagnebotiX was formed in Q2 2014 as a spinoff of the Multiscale Robotics Laboratory (MSRL) of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent System (ETH Zurich). Our team of researchers and engineers in Zurich develops and produces magnetic manipulation systems, including magnetic field generators and micromagnetic agents, for both fundamental and applied research. Taking advantage of the transmission of both power and guidance through applied magnetic fields, our systems provide wireless tools to accomplish challenging micromanipulation tasks. They are also used as untethered mechanical probes in otherwise inaccessible places and for targeted cargo delivery in minimally invasive biological studies.

Our magnetic field generator: Developed at MSRL, the solenoid-based MFG system is capable of generating a wide variety of static or time-varying magnetic fields. Any combination of magnetic fields and field gradients can be produced at frequencies up to several hundred Hertz. With appropriate microagents the MFG-100 can produce forces or torques with 5 degrees-of -freedom, or activate locomotion modes as diverse as field gradient response, stick -slip or rolling motions, and flagellar swimming.

We also produce the RodBot, a wireless, mobile, rod-shaped microrobot that is guided and powered by an externally applied magnetic field. When it rolls in a low Reynolds number environment it generates fluid flow with a rising component ahead and a travelling vortex above itself. Using this flow pattern RodBots can select and transport micro-objects in a completely non-contact manner – the RodBot moves the liquid environment, and the object follows the flow. One application is for the harvesting of delicate protein crystals, where the RodBot technology increases the success rate and allows automation.

ROB Technologies

Automating the non-standard

R-O-B-LogoBlack_170816_155By130_ACB_170816ROB Technologies develops software solutions that enables our customers to adapt their robotic systems and processes easily and quickly to new production tasks, without any programming knowledge.

This allows an efficient operation of industrial service robots in the field of non-standard individual fabrication of high-quality products, as well as the automated production of small batch sizes.

Depending on the application robots can be controlled 1) directly via pre-existing CAD-data, 2) via a graphical user interface, or 3) via direct manual manipulation.

Through this approach, individual and specific process know-how of the operator can be integrated directly into the automatic fabrication process.

Our Technology can be applied to wide range of different fabrication scales. Our solutions encompass deburring and chamfering of parts, application of gluing paths, but also large scale robotic construction, like the assembly of individual timber wall modules or the robotic assembly of non-standard brick façade elements.

SensArs Neuroprosthetics

Sensars_155By130_ACB_270616SensArs Neuroprosthetics is a spin-off from EPFL (Switzerland) and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy), founded by Francesco Petrini, Stanisa Raspopovic and Silvestro Micera. The company mission is to restore sensory, motor and physiological functionalities of people with amputation or malfunctioning of the peripheral nervous system. SensArs’ product is SENSY, a unique worldwide device for restoring sensory feedback by stimulating the human peripheral nervous system. It comprises implantable intraneural electrodes, implantable stimulator, external controller and sensorised sole.

spin-fundsThe sensorised sole sends the tactile information from the foot to the external controller, which transduces it in stimulation instructions received by the implantable stimulator to inject current in the peripheral nerves by means of the intraneural electrodes.

SENSY IP is covered by two pending patents.

The working principle of SENSY has been tested on three upper limb amputees. Currently, SensArs is focusing on proving the working principle of the device on lower limb amputees, which represent the first addressable market for the company. A clinical trial with lower limb amputees will start soon.

Once SENSY is on the market, lower limb amputees will contact their medical doctor to evaluate the possibility of receiving our product.
